Families remember Melbourne CBD rampage victims

Families have paid tribute to loved ones killed in the senseless violence on Bourke St in Melbourne's CBD.

The wife of Matthew Si, 33, said she had only just parted ways with her husband after they had lunch together in the city.

Melinda said she was "shattered" by the loss of her "devoted husband", describing Matthew as a loving father, brother and son.

Another victim, 22-year-old Jess Mudie has been remembered as an inspiration.

In a statement, family said Jess was a "bright bubble of joy".

"You will always be a part of us and are one of the strongest people we know," they said.

"We are constantly inspired by your love for everyone around you and the lengths you will go to for the people you love."

They said she had an "extravagant humour" and always laughed at her own jokes.

"You are always up to do everything and are such bright bubble of joy," they said.

"You are strong, beautiful, determined, always work hard to get what you want and never shy away from a challenge. You always tell it like it is and if someone wanted the truth you would not be afraid to tell them.

"You are so head strong and assertive in everything that you do, your love for your family and friends is immense, and you are always there when any one needs support."

Meanwhile, the father of Thalia Hakin - the young girl killed - remains at the bedside of his wife and other daughter who were also seriously hurt when they were struck by the car.

Her sister Maggie, aged 9, and mother Nathalie, remain in hospital.

Relatives are rallying around Thalia's dad Tony.

"We all feel helpless and hopeless at times like this as there is so little we can do," one family friend said.

The Beth Rivkah College pupil was remembered as a friendly and diligent student.

Principal Rabbi Yehoshua Smukler said she was a kind and caring sister to Maggie.

"She was really doting ... she would come to check on her sister every day," he said.

The alleged CBD killer accused of mowing down pedestrians through the centre of Melbourne is likely to face a string of murder charges, police have confirmed.

The Prime Minister, Victorian Premier and Victoria Police chief today gathered at the scene of the horror in a grim media conference at the scene of the rampage, with the fifth victim to die a three-month-old boy.

The addresses came ahead of a vigil at Federation Square tomorrow amid the creation the Bourke Street Fund raising money for those hit by the tragedy.

Victoria Police chief commissioner Graham Ashton said following the re-opening of the crime scene, 300 witness statements had been taken, but again urged witnesses to upload any footage of the incident.

Police were still waiting for the go-ahead to interview Dimitrious "Jimmy" Gargasoulas over the Bourke Street Mall car attack.

But Ashton confirmed when asked the he was expected to face murder charges, responding "absolutely, multiple counts".
