Facelift for Tower Bridge

London's famous Tower Bridge is about to get a £4 million ($10.55 million) facelift. The historic 114-year-old bridge, which spans the Thames River, will undergo a three-year restoration programme beginning later this month.

The bridge will be given fresh coats of blue and white paint. The cost of the revamp will be covered by a trust fund set up by a group of monks who collected bridge tolls across London as long ago as 1097.

The trust, now known as the Bridge House Estates, is worth about £700 million.
