But last week, Thomson made headlines after he returned to work with his business partner after promising clients he would complete their tasks before Christmas.
And now, it has been revealed that the single splurge he has made since hitting the jackpot has been a second-hand car.
He told UK tabloid The Mirror he refused to throw his new-found fortune around – and that he considered fancy cars to be "a waste of money".
"(The car is) a couple of years old. I haven't splashed out. I'm not going to go out and start to splash it around, it still hasn't sunk in," he told the publication.
"It has been very stressful. I'm still not sleeping, I'm still not eating properly. It's a lot to take in."
Thomson also vowed to "keep working" and said work had been a welcome respite from the upheaval that came with the win.
"I've got too much to think about with Christmas and family now. But of course I have got to finish the jobs I have got on," he explained to The Mirror.
"I said I am going to do the jobs, so I've got to, I can't go back on my word."
The 42-year-old was also recently pictured by The Sun hauling boxes, driving his old van and helping his business partner Neil Peet instead of relaxing and splashing his cash.
Several Selsey locals also told The Sun Thomson had remained down to earth after the win, with one saying, "You'd never know he's one of the richest men in Britain", while another added, "Steve's a mega-jackpot winner but first and foremost a loyal builder."
Speaking to EuroMillions staff soon after their win, Thomson said he was stunned when he first realised he had the lucky numbers.
"I started shaking a lot. I knew it was a really big win but didn't know what to do," he said.
"I went out to my van, walked back in, thought about knocking on a neighbour's door, went back to the van – I think I was on the verge of having a heart attack."
Mr Thomson decided to visit his wife at work to break the news.
"As soon as he walked in I thought something was wrong, and he said he had to talk to me immediately," she said, revealing she originally thought they had won just £105,000 before she realised it was far more.
So far, the couple have revealed they plan to move into a new, bigger home to give each of their three children their own bedroom, although they refuse to leave their small village.
They also plan to take more family holidays and visit Thomson's relatives in Slovakia more often.
