1. Three of four former US prisoners in Iran landed in Geneva, Switzerland, this morning on their way to Germany for medical tests. The fourth has yet to leave Iran. US President Barack Obama said: "This is a good day because once again we're seeing what's possible with strong Americandiplomacy." However new sanctions over Iran's recent ballistic missile tests will be imposed. They had been delayed to safeguard the prisoners.
2. A man has died in Rennes hospital in France after a drug trial left him brain dead. Five other volunteers are in a stable condition after testing a pain and mood disorder drug for a Portuguese company. The six men who were hospitalised, out of 108 people involved, received the highest dose.
3. Isis (Islamic State) fighters have abducted up to 400 civilians in the Syrian city Deir ez-Zor. A Syrian monitoring group said at least 135 people have also been killed in fighting, including 85 civilians and 50 regime troops.
4. People in Burkina Faso are campaigning for the release of an Australian doctor and his wife, believed kidnapped by local militants. Locals have started a Facebook page posting messages of support for Ken and Jocelyn Elliott who operate a hospital in Djibo. The al-Qaeda linked Emirate of the Sahara group are thought to be holding the couple who are in their 80s.
5. Two climbers have died on a peak in Scotland's Glencoe. They were found dead on Stob Coire nam Beith after weekend snowfall.
6. A missing Hong Kong bookseller Gui Minhai, has appeared on Chinese state tv to make a 'confession'. he is one of five men linked to books critical of Beijing who have vanished in recent months. Gui claimed he had voluntarily surrended to Chinese authorities over his supposed involvement in a fatal hit and run incident in Ningbo in 2003.
7. A cleric in Pakistan has been arrested for inciting a teenager to saw off his own hand. Terror charges have been brought against Shabir Ahmed who accused Anwar Ali, 15, of blasphemy in a Punjab mosque. The teen then brought the cleric his own hand.
8. Britain's Opposition Leader Jeremy Corbyn has invited US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to visit a London mosque. Tomorrow the British Parliament debates a motion calling for a ban on Trump visiting the country over his comments about banning Muslims from entering the US. Corbyn noted that he is married to a Mexican and his constituency is multi-cultural.
