Dr Vahid Reza Adib, the partner of former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, has been charged with rape.
In a statement, Queensland Police said detectives from the Gold Coast Investigation Branch had charged Adib, 65, with three counts of rape, two counts of deprivation of liberty and one count of sexualassault.
“It will be alleged the man sexually assaulted a woman in her 30s at a Goodwin Terrace residence on March 30,” the statement said.
“Following extensive investigations, on April 30, detectives executed a crime scene warrant at the property where several items were seized.”
Adib is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on May 14.
They met at the Stradbroke Day races and met again through mutual friends.
Palaszczuk told the Courier Mail that Adib was a warm, caring and intelligent man with a great sense of humour.

“We are just enjoying getting to know each other,” she said.
“We make time when we can to see each other. It’s not easy, but when we do see each other we like to go out to dinner and go on long walks, and what has been nice for me is that he also makes me take a break from work every now and again.”
Adib is a surgeon at the Brisbane Obesity Clinic, which he established in 2004.
He has performed tens of thousands of operations and weight loss procedures.
He began his surgical career at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in 1994 and has studied in Australia and Europe.
