Crocodile eats 12-year-old Iranian boy

A crocodile ate a 12-year-old Iranian boy who was swimming with friends in a river near the Pakistani border.

Environmental websites identified the creature as the Iranian short-muzzle crocodile, known as the gando. It can grow up to 5m long and is reputedly timid.

"This is a very rare and surprising attack," said the director of the local environmental office.

"Either the crocodile was very hungry or the swimmers rubbed it up the wrong way."
