Snider’s family announced last week he had been diagnosed with walking pneumonia in Tennessee, asking fans to “hold him in your thoughts in whatever way feels right to you”.
“You’ve carried him through so much over the years and he needs that from all of us now more than ever.”
He had already cancelled the remainder of his High, Lonesome and Then Some 2025 Tour after he was reportedly assaulted on November 1 before a scheduled Salt Lake City show.
A day later, Snider was arrested for disorderly conduct while being treated for his injuries at Holy Cross Hospital, according to USA Today.
He was reportedly attempting to be readmitted to the hospital because he disagreed with the staff’s decision to discharge him.
Snider’s contributions to Americana music have been lauded as highly influential, the Tennessean reports.
In 2016, music journalist Peter Cooper said the rise of the East Nashville scene is indebted “both musically and culturally” to the songwriter’s 2004 album East Nashville Skyline.
“That was the first time most people outside of this area ever heard of East Nashville. And the album embodied the spirit, grit, and artistry of East Nashville.”
Snider wrote extensively in his songs about his battle with addictions and chronic pain, approaching the difficult topics with characteristic levity.
