SYDNEY - Australia's general election is likely to be held on November 24, after Treasurer Peter Costello apparently revealed the country's biggest political secret on a television show.

Appearing on a programme on Saturday ahead of the Aussie Rules football grand final, Costello said he was nervous. Because of the game or the election? Costello said they both culminate at this time of year, "the last day of September and the last day of November, isn't it"?
