Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman shot in the head by a deranged gunman, will return to her home town of Tucson next week for the anniversary of the rampage that left six people dead and 12 injured.
"It's going to be a very tough [time] for us all," Mark Kelly, her husband and a former US astronaut, said. "She will probably meet some of the other survivors and relatives of the dead. It's going to be extremely difficult."
Ceremonies to mark the January 8 anniversary will begin with a ringing of bells across the city at the time of Jared Loughner's shooting spree outside a shopping centre.
