Condamine remains a ghost town as it waits for floodwaters to peak for the second time in 10 days.
The southern Queensland town was evacuated for the second time this week in the face of the rising floodwater; the only inhabitants are two police officers and six State Emergency Service
personnel.
Condamine is now waiting for an expected river peak of 14.8 metres late on Sunday or early Monday, below the 15.25 metre peak experienced earlier this month.
Western Downs Mayor Ray Brown said 42 of the town's 60 houses were inundated during the last peak and many would be flooded a second time.
"They've cleaned up once before and they're about to start cleaning up again ... it's a very raw emotional issue at the moment," he told AAP.
"We're hoping that it's not going to be as high as that, but there's certainly going to be inundations again."
He said the 150-strong community would get through the disaster.
"The Condamine River at Condamine has hit 14.6m and still rising this morning," Mr Brown told AAP.
"It's going to be up for a long time. It's just a waiting game now, and that's what's frustrating for everyone. They just want to get back home, but they can't because it's just so huge.
The peak will stay around at that level until at least Tuesday, Mr Brown said, and he expected it would be the end of next week before anybody would be allowed back in.
