KUWAIT - A Canadian man was shot dead and his Filipina wife was wounded in Kuwait today in an incident which may have been related to the US-led strikes against Afghanistan, diplomats and security sources said.
The man's wife was in a stable condition in hospital with three gunshot wounds. They said the dead man, whom they did not name, had been in his 50s.
They said the attacker, who appeared to be from the Indian subcontinent, had not been apprehended but that there were unconfirmed reports that the attack could have been motivated by anger over the US strikes on Afghanistan.
Canada has expressed strong support for US strikes on Afghanistan's ruling Taleban for harbouring Saudi-born dissident Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect in the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
The US-led bombing of Muslim Afghanistan, now in its fourth day, has angered many in the Islamic world.
Kuwait has strongly condemned the attacks on the United States and supports its fight against terrorism.
Kuwait said on Wednesday it planned to revoke the citizenship of Sulaiman Bu Ghaith, a former Muslim preacher from Kuwait who now acts as spokesman for bin Laden's militant Islamic group, al Qaeda.
Ghaith said in a taped message broadcast on Tuesday that attacks on the United States using hijacked planes would continue, and called on other Muslims to join the "jihad", or holy struggle.
