PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) Cambodia's main political parties say they are getting closer to resolving the country's post-election deadlock, though emotions are still running high, with a Buddhist monk threatening to burn himself to protest alleged chicanery at the polls.
Prime Minister Hun Sen and opposition leader Sam Rainsy
held a second meeting Tuesday as the opposition continued a mass demonstration in the capital.
The opposition is demanding an independent probe of election irregularities it says cost it the July 28 election, and threatening to boycott the opening of Parliament.
Spokesmen for both sides said they were getting closer to agreeing on political reforms.
Meanwhile, a Buddhist monk at the opposition rally was restrained from setting himself alight after giving a speech denouncing election fraud and dousing himself with gasoline.
