An 8-year-old and his family have an anxious wait after the young boy was pricked by a syringe while playing on a popular playground in West Australia.
The boy was playing at an Esperance Shire playground with friends when he picked up a suspicious black bag containing several discarded syringes.
The boy's father, Daniel Edgar, said his son came running over saying he had "found a drug needle" while playing in the sand.
"He had a little mark on his finger, he actually touched the needle not knowing what it was," the boy's father told ABC.
According to an Esperance Shire officer the playground was immediately closed and an extensive clean up is under way, including play equipment covered in faeces.

Now the family has a terrifying wait for the results of testing for various diseases, including HIV.
"There were six little bags scattered around the park. I put all the bags in a bucket and we took my son to the hospital and they did a series of blood tests," Edgar told the West Australian.

Edgar said the waiting for the test results to come back has "been the longest two days of my life".
"As a parent, you sit there fearing the worst that the result will come back with something."
The father is furious at those who abandoned the needles in the playground.
"Why a kids' park, of all places to do that, especially this park where my kids and the neighbourhood kids are constantly playing. What sort of animal does that?" he told ABC.
