COLOMBO - Twenty people burned to death and about 40 were injured when a beer truck and a passenger bus collided and caught fire in southern Sri Lanka, police and the government said today.
"It was a head-on clash in a bend. Both vehicles caught fire," said JayanthaGamage, deputy inspector general for the Southern Province.
The driver of the container truck was among the 20 killed, and the injured were taken to a local hospital, the government's national security website (www.nationalsecurity.lk) said.
The accident happened early on Tuesday morning some 80km south of the capital Colombo in the Galle area.
