DENPASAR, Bali - Indonesian police plan to make nine Australians accused of smuggling heroin re-enact the final hours before their arrest in Bali last month.
The suspects will be taken from their jail cells and made to retrace the steps they took in in the final hours before their arrestson April 17.
Bali police said the re-enactment was a final part of their investigation.
"It's almost finished," said Colonel Bambang Sugiarto of the Bali police anti-drug squad.
"It is about 90 per cent completed. We are planning a re-enactment."
Indonesian often stage re-enactments at the tail end of investigations. Media are usually invited to the event.
A re-enactment of this case would mean gaining the cooperation of the Melasti and the Hard Rock hotels in the busy tourist area of Kuta Beach where the Australian suspects had been staying before their arrests.
Part of the operation would also be staged at Denpasar airport where some were nabbed, allegedly with heroin strapped to their bodies.
Sugiarto, who also led the investigation into the Schapelle Corby drug smuggling case, said no date had been set for the Bali nine re-enactment.
The nine are being held in three different locations in Bali with most in holding cells at Bali police headquarters.
Myuran Sukumaran -- who has been identified as the alleged ringleader -- is being detained at nearby Denpasar.
Andrew Chan -- originally labelled the godfather but now regarded as Sukumaran's lieutenant -- is being kept at Benoa police station near Bali's main tourist port.
All are accused of being drug runners -- an offence that can carry the death sentence on conviction.
Last weekend Renae Lawrence, the only woman in the alleged drug conspiracy, said she had not been interrogated by police for many weeks.
Under Indonesian police procedure, once officers complete an investigation they hand over a dossier of evidence to prosecutors who in turn build a case for trial.
Sometimes prosecutors go back to police to seek more evidence before a case is presented in court.
