Bakhtiaris' asylum quest ends with return

The Bakhtiari family, Australia's highest profile asylum seekers, have arrived in Pakistan after being deported last week.

Immigration Minister, Senator Amanda Vanstone confirmed the family arrived in Pakistan.

"Due to an attempt by one member of the family to disrupt the entry, processing took most of the day."

The deportation ends a five-year saga for the Bakhtiari clan, who maintained they were from Afghanistan.

The Government says they are Pakistani.
