Asked what his reaction would be if he saw a dog driving towards him, he added: "I would laugh for sure but then I would be like, 'oh wow, dogs can drive.'"
Witnesses said the car started moving slowly out of its parking spot towards the supermarket before crashing into a wall.
The woman who owned the car, described as being in her late 70s, explained she left the engine running so the dogs could stay cool as she shopped.
Officers from the Wayne County Sheriff's Department were called to the scene where one of the pets had managed to "get the car out of park".
Amid the drama, another of the dogs managed to wind down a window in the car.
"It's now something you hear every day but then I guess it is Wayne County," another local resident told WSAZ.
"Next thing, you'll be seeing them shopping, or something," he joked.
The dogs were not injured in the joyride and the car's owner was able to drive the vehicle home.
