Alleged kidnapper cowers in cupboard after triggering amber alert

A Brisbane stepfather at the centre of an urgent Amber Alert, who allegedly dragged a 5-year-old boy and three teenagers into his car, has been charged.

The three boys, aged five, 13 and 17, and a girl, aged 16, were found safe and well at a home in Loganlea on Friday night.

In the home where they were found, their kidnapper was hiding in a cupboard after triggering an urgent amber alert seeking their safe return.

Police allege Shane Perry, the children's stepfather, abducted the four kids from East Ipswich on Friday afternoon. Mr Perry allegedly violated a domestic violence order while doing so.

Police allege Mr Perry, from Slacks Creek, used his car to force another car carrying the four children off the road on Friday afternoon.

The 37-year-old then threatened the driver with a baseball bat before forcing the children into his own car, which had NSW registration plates.

Police believed the man may have been keeping the children in the Logan area or planning to take them interstate.

They were later found safe and well, with police cancelling the alert after 8pm last night.

Police discovered the man hiding in a cupboard at the same house the children were found.

He was charged with threatening violence, contravention of a domestic violence order, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.

The man will appear at the Ipswich Magistrates Court on April 15.
