A 6.2 magnitude aftershock has struck off the coast of Japan, the United States Geological Survey reports.
The quake struck at 3.51am local time (5.51am NZT) off the coast of Honshu, centred 79km southeast of Sendai and 94km east of Fukushima, at a depth of 35km.
No tsunami advisory has been issued at this stage.
