The guest speaker at the Wairarapa Times-Age Sports Awards, to be held at Copthorne Solway Park, on Wednesday, June 1, will be two-time Olympian and Commonwealth Games Silver medallist Paul Henare.
Henare, a foundation player for the Breakers in 2003, soon becoming their captain, pulled on the famous singlet 250 times, culminating in their first ever ANBL Championship in 2010 which was his final game.
His number 32 was retired after that famous victory in Auckland.
He became the first ever Breaker to receive that honour.
He is currently the head coach of the New Zealand Tall Blacks.
Voting for finalists of the Wairarapa Times-Age Sports Awards begins today with the voting form available on pages 18 and 19 of this edition.
Tickets for the event are now available for purchase from the Wairarapa Times-Age office.
The event is a celebration of sporting success in the Wairarapa area that was started by the Wairarapa Times-Age more than 30 years ago.
