Bikes and bites
Get out and explore Auckland's increasing network of cycleways next Sunday on EcoMatters' Pedal&Pizza Flat White Ride. The two-hour cycle, in two groups determined by riding speed, is a loop from the EcoMatters Bike Hub in New Lynn, with a wood-fired pizza to greet you at the finish line and a coffee stop at the halfway mark. If the 33km is too much, you can get a train back to New Lynn at either 16km, 23km or 26km. You'll traverse cyclepaths, shared paths and roads, so you'll need to have some cycling skill and confidence. Rain date is June 3. Olympic Place, New Lynn, Sunday, May 27, 9am. Tickets from $10 at Eventbrite. Visit ecomatters.org.nz/flatwhiteride
Light up your life
The annual LUX Light Festival will illuminate Wellington's Waterfront and Frank Kitts Park for 10 colourful nights from 6pm on Friday. This year's festival, the largest of its kind in New Zealand, has a new programme of light sculptures including Melbourne's Skunk Control, who will present their acclaimed new work Parliament of Colour, featuring mechatronic winged butterflies.
Another highlight will be the LUX Light Festival Cruise with Cruising Jacuzzi — a 90-minute jaunt around the inner harbour in a floating wood-fired Jacuzzi. Wellington Waterfront, Friday, May 18 to Sunday, May 27, 6pm-10pm daily. Visit lux.org.nz. For information about Cruising Jacuzzi visit cruising-jacuzzi.co.nz
