The city hopper is a free ferry that runs up and down the Brisbane River. It is easy to find them with their colourful paint scheme.
What's the best part of the city to be based?
I think South Bank. It's a short walk across a number of pedestrian bridges and you are in the city. You are surrounded by top-rated bars and restaurants plus a man-made beach, which is watched over by surf life savers, so a great place for young and old. With museums and art galleries too, South Bank is a one-stop shop for Brisbane and Queensland culture.
Where's the first place you would take a visitor?
I would start by going to Mt Coot-tha. It offers spectacular panoramic views over the CBD all the way to Moreton Bay. The Botanic Gardens and Planetarium are in the foothills and buses run frequently between there and the city.
Where's your favourite brunch spot?
Bitter Suite on James St in the suburb of New Farm.
Best place for a takeaway coffee?
You can't go wrong with any of the places along Grey St in South Bank. Visitors will find a number of pop-up coffee shops all over the city, each with their own single origin blends.
Your favourite rooftop bar?
Elixir roof-top bar (Ann St) is a great spot and every Thursday they have their Ribs and Red night between 5pm and 9pm. A plate of ribs and a glass of Pinot for $20.
How about some good options for dinner?
If you are looking for a special night out with a loved one, my go-to is E'cco bistro on Boundary St. You will not be disappointed; splash out and go with the tasting menu and wine. You will leave with a smile on your face.
Are there any good festivals to time a visit around?
The Brisbane Festival (September 9-30), features theatre, music, dance, circus, opera and other events and livens up the river city.
What's a good day trip from the city?
If you only had one day, drive north. There you will find Australia Zoo and the laid-back Sunshine Coast region. Follow the signs to Maleny and Montville - two amazing little village-style towns full of arts and craft stores, cafes and restaurants. Sample locally produced beer, wine and old-style rock candy.
What's your favourite/closest beach?
The closest beach is the drive south down the M1 to the Gold Coast. Follow the signs to Seaworld and you will find the local beach at the Spit. Try fish and chips at Peters or next door is the Fishermen's Co-operative, where they sell prawns and crabs straight off the boat.
Where do you go when you want to experience the great Australian outdoors?
I take the drive to the Gold Coast hinterland - Binna Burra or Mt Tamborine.
Any good hikes/walks in the area?
Mt Coot-tha has a number of trails but for the serious tramper you would go to Mt Tamborine for sure - all types of graded hikes there.
What are the must-see local attractions?
Sports fans love a trip to The Gabba and Suncorp Stadium. Other must-see attractions are The Story Bridge Climb and Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.
Where can you go for some indigenous culture?
GoMa (Gallery of Modern Art) and the Queensland Art Gallery, located adjacent to each other in South Bank, display amazing indigenous work.
Where's the best place to go shopping for great clothing, particularly local labels?
The DFO is great or simply make your way into the CBD. In and around the Myer centre, you will find shops with local and international designer labels.
