With a private white sand beach, extensive pools and fountains, a luxurious spa, more than 1000 crystal chandeliers and marble imported from 13 countries, it's no surprise that this grand Abu Dhabi "palace" cost US$3 billion to build — making it one of the most expensive hotels ever built. To really feel like royalty, book into one of the palace suites — although the entire hotel is stunning, with plenty of photo opportunities. With opulent Arabian furniture and decor, a 24-hour personal butler, limo transfers to and from the airport and incredible views of the Gulf, you'll definitely find it hard to return home afterwards.

2 HOTEL PRESIDENT WILSON, GENEVA

The Royal Penthouse Suite at the Hotel President Wilson has claimed the lofty title of most expensive hotel suite in the world for some years now. Taking up the entire eighth floor of this famous hotel, it contains 12 bedrooms, 12 marble bathrooms, a grand piano, a billiards table, a telescope for night viewing and a private elevator. As you'd imagine, it's hosted some famous names over the years — Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and Michael Douglas have all enjoyed the impressive views of Lake Geneva and the Swiss Alps through the suite's floor-to-ceiling bay windows.

3 THE MARK, NEW YORK CITY

Located in Manhattan's Upper East Side, this boutique luxury hotel offers an unforgettable NYC experience — especially if you get the chance to stay in its five-bedroom Terrace Suite. This residence is so exclusive, it's not even listed on the hotel's website. Spread across two floors, Elite Traveler says the 3657sqm apartment offers an "oasis above the city, with a skylighted pavilion and 762sqm roof terrace overlooking Central Park". While a night will set you back US$53,200, you'll also have access to an on-demand hair stylist, driver, personal trainer and most importantly, 24-hour access to Bergdorf Goodman.
