1 3D Trick Art Gallery, Rotorua
Prepare to see the infamous classics with a funky, out-of-the-frame twist at this fun and interactive 3D gallery. It is split into four different themes and kids will love wandering through the gallery as their perceptions are challenged with optical illusions and hyper-realistic installations. As the first 3D interactive gallery, this is one the whole family will love.
2 City Art Gallery, Wellington
For contemporary art that will make you and your kids think, Wellington Art Gallery is top of the list. With a range of temporary exhibitions, a family reading room and prepared "gallery games" for kids, it will surely keep the family entertained all day. Drop by for a visit, or catch one of their annual family days, school holiday programmes or monthly exhibition tour for parents with babies. Entry is free.
3 Matakana Sculptureum, Auckland
Turns out the famous markets aren't the only reason to head north at the weekend. A mix of whimsy and wonder awaits at the Matakana sculpture park. The indoor galleries hold an impressive range of art from all around the world and the kids will love running around the outdoor sculpture maze. Just make sure they don't mistake the installations for a jungle gym.
