Over 42km and 21 wine stops spread over stunning Bordeaux, France, the Marathon du Merdoc is no stroll in the vineyard!
For most marathons a good pair of running shoes are recommended – but for this one, participants might like to bring their drinking boots instead.
The Marathon du Medoc is a 42km race that really only the French could possibly dream up – because it's one that meanders through someof the world's finest vineyards and there are vintage wines available at every one of the 21 drink stops.

Plus oysters, foie gras, cheese, entrecote steak and ice cream.
It goes without saying, then, that this is definitely not a race where personal bests are likely to be smashed.

Unsurprisingly, this marathon has more medical support than any other.
The marathon festivities start this year on the Friday before race day, with a 'Thousand Pastas' food festival providing carbohydrates for the runners to load up on.
After the race there are celebrations throughout the evening, with bands and local producers supplying more food and drink. Photo / Getty Images
