Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach was ripped to shreds by an Aussie radio host this morning, who described it as an overrated eyesore.
But luckily, it's not the only beach in Sydney - here are five lesser known spots to visit instead of the predictable tourist traps.
Tamarama Beach
Described byTimeOut as the "smaller, sexier alternative to Bondi", this sweet spot is just around the corner from that other beach. And if you're after a bit of eye candy, the beach has been nicknamed "Glamarama" due to the attractive locals who frequent its shores.
To escape the crowded and noisy Bondi Beach, try Clovelly in the eastern suburbs. Its small size and tranquil vibes make it a popular spot for families and the elderly.
Gordons Bay
Surrounded by Jurassic Park-esque rock formations, this secluded oasis is located north of Coogee Beach and south of Clovelly Beach. It's only accessibly via the Coastal Walkway and is a great spot to bask in the sun or enjoy some snorkeling.

Maroubra Beach
Famed for its consistent waves and surf culture, Maroubra is one of the most famous surfing locations in Sydney. It's been listed as a national surfing reserve and has hosted many surfing competitions.

Shark Bay
Don't be put off by the name - this beach in Nielsen Park is safely netted off so there's no chance of running into pointy-finned intruders. It's great for swimming, snorkelling and families, plus there's a promenade to scooter, bike, or stroll along.
