In an effort to make sure flying is comfortable for passengers of all shapes and sizes a London-based design studio has rethought the plane cabin chair.
PearsonLloyd revealed concept art for some rather sleek-looking seating for economy cabins, at the recent Hamburg Design Exposition.
The seating may look flimsy but the slimness of the chairs maximises on passenger space. An important consideration for long-haul flights.
Made from strong fibre glass these Spartan seats are also ecologically idealistic, covered in a special mix of sunflower seed and recycled wool. All of which must be more comfortable than it sounds.
However, while this mantra of "no excess weight, no excess material" has been followed to its zenith there is still space for a flat-screen entertainment system to be affixed to the back of each chair. They aren't completely heartless.

The company is known for their work with within the confines of a plane cabin, and was recently invited to collaborate with Lufthansa on a recent revamp of the airline's business class experience.
While passenger space is still an important consideration, needless to say the Lufthansa designs look a little more comfortable.
