Hanmer Thermal Reserve is a major destination for international visitors, and a proposed redevelopment of the pools is expected to attract more North Islanders to the Hurunui region.The reserve has seven open-air thermal pools and three sulphur pools, as well as sauna and steam rooms, a freshwater heated pool and large family activity pool, and the extension includes two new rock pools and two new sulphur pools, a new entrance and a shaded picnic area.
