Spectacular mountain views for trampers

Towering volcanic cliffs, alpine swamps and tarns, rare species of flora and fauna, and spectacular mountain and coastal views are the reward for trampers on the new Pouakai Circuit on the northern slopes of Mt Taranaki.

The 25km circuit will appeal to those who don't have time to complete the full round-the-mountain circuit.

The route starts and finishes at the North Egmont Visitors' Centre, and overnight stops can be made at either Holly Hut or Pouakai Hut.

Intending trampers should get up-to-date information from North Egmont Visitors' Centre.
