South Island rail competition winner

Sean Muir of Kindergarten Drive, Takanini, is the winner of Herald Travel's South Island rail adventure competition.

There were more than 12,000 entries seeking to win the $5000 trip for two provided by West Coast Tourism, Christchurch & Canterbury Tourism, Air New Zealand and TranzScenic.

The prize package includes: Return flights for two on Air New Zealand to Christchurch.

Overnight accommodation at both ends of the trip at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Christchurch.

Punting on the River Avon through the heart of the Garden City.

A return trip on the TranzAlpine between Christchurch and Greymouth.

A three-day West Coast experience with Kea Heritage Tours, including a half-day ice walk on either the Franz Josef or Fox glacier, and a visit to Punakaiki and the pancake rocks.

Accommodation on the West Coast at Punakaiki Resort and Franz Josef Glacier Hotel.
