Six injured in severe turbulence

A Thai Airways flight was hit by turbulence so severe that six people required hospital treatment and the cabin was left in a mess.

Pictures from the Monday flight show a stain-splattered seat, while the aisle was strewn with cushions and passengers' belongings. It was unknown if the red liquid pictured on the seat was blood, red wine, or sauce.

The Boeing 777 was travelling from Jakarta, Indonesia to Bangkok, Thailand with 72 passengers and 12 crew members on board.

One passenger and five crew members were injured during the incident, Thai news site Khaosod reported.

The shocking images were posted to Facebook by Kru P'Birth, a member of the cabin crew.

The post was later deleted and Thai Airways made an official announcement on the incident soon after.

Thai Airways president Charamporn Jotikasthira said the cost of medical treatment for passengers and staff would be paid for by the airline.

All those who had been injured had since been released from hospital.

The flight landed safely in Bangkok about 105 minutes after the turbulence, the Aviation Herald reported.
