Room Check: Sheraton Grand, Macau

Francis Cook stays at the Sheraton Grand on the Cotai strip, Macau.

Location: The heart of the Cotai strip - Macau's so-called Vegas.

Check-in experience: Greeted as we came off the coach with handshakes, business cards and our room keys. A concierge took our bags straight up to the floor as we ogled the immense hotel.

Room: Executive suite. Televisions and an espresso machine. Other rooms in the hotel feature bunk beds for kids and an Xbox One to keep them occupied, making it a good choice for families.

What's in the neighbourhood: The Vegas of the East. The St. Regis is next door if you're after a good cocktail and can be accessed internally. Across the road is The Venetian, which is modelled after Venice and includes working canals with gondoliers. Tonnes of casinos and bars to lose money at. Myriad shopping malls with top designer boutiques.

Exercise: There's a large heated outdoor pool as well as a gym.

The bed: King-size with large pillows, very comfortable.

Bathroom: The main bathroom has a clawfoot tub, two sinks, a shower and a toilet.

Noise: None. Our floor had a number of guests but nothing woke me in the night.

Price: About $300 a night for an executive suite, which grants access to the Club Sheraton lounge for great breakfasts and there's a free cocktail hour each evening.

Food: The lounge breakfast was great. There are many great restaurants in the 4000-room complex.

Perfect for: People who want to experience Macau's sin-city or go shopping.

Would I return: Yes, but only for one night next time. The hotel is great but there are more interesting areas of Macau.
