Northern happenings

All eyes will be on celebrations at Waitangi this weekend, and if you're going north there are plenty of other events on offer. The Paparoa A & P Show is at the Paparoa Showgrounds on Saturday (adults $7, children $2); on Friday is the Baylys Beach Bonanza, with a surf competition, horse racing, volleyball and target golf.

Also on Saturday, Kerikeri celebrates the opening of its new library with a dawn blessing followed by a family fun day of activities at the Kerikeri Domain from 11am.
