These celebrations of sound will keep you rocking all summer long

Glastonbury, UK

Getting muddy at Glastonbury is one of those bucket list festival experiences. This legendary event has been held nearly every year since 1970, with most guests camping out in different sites designated for different atmospheres. It's the biggest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world and attracts more than 130,000 music lovers every year — including many notable celebrity guests.

When it comes to festival fun, Primavera Sound won't disappoint. One of the biggest in Europe, it's held in Barcelona over three days and has also branched out to hold a smaller event in Porto, Portugal. Headliners this year included Aphex Twin, The XX and Grandaddy, as well as an abundance of DJs to keep the party going all night.

The party never stops at Melt thanks to its notorious "sleepless stage", where the music runs from Saturday morning to midday on Monday. This year, the festival celebrated its 20th anniversary with South African rap-rave duo Die Antwoord, M.I.A., Fatboy Slim and more.

This electronic music festival celebrates soundsystem culture and is held just outside the city of Pula in an abandoned Roman fort perched over the Adriatic Sea. Popular with students, headliners this year include Dizzee Rascal, DJ Shadow and Ghostface Killah.

Having just celebrated its ninth year, Rock in Roma is known as one of Europe's biggest and best rock festivals. With its programme extending over a whole month in late June, there are plenty of acts for punters to choose from — this year's festival included the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the Offspring and the xx.
