Adam's Accommodation, Punga Lodge, Waiheke

Jump on the ferry from downtown Auckland, where dogs are welcome to come along for the ride. On Waiheke Island there are a couple of dog-friendly accommodation options to choose from.

Rent a holiday home from Adam's Accomodation, where animals are welcomed — its "Island Dream Cottage" on the north coast of the island is located on a 4ha farm, complete with alpacas, horses, sheep, guinea fowl and a rescue dog named Ira. Bring a bed for Spot and your dog will be allowed to sleep inside with you.

Close to Oneroa, Punga Lodge also has a special chalet where wellbehaved pets are welcome to stay. It's another great base to explore the island with your pet — and remember, many of the vineyards allow your dog to dine with you.

Kinross Cottages, Queenstown

Take your dog on your next Queenstown jaunt — nestled among the mountains, Kinross Cottages welcome the whole family, Rover included. The accommodation comes in the form of historic cottages, located on the old Kinross Station in Gibbston Valley, surrounded by a vineyard. The owners even have a dog of their own, Skye, who can show your pooch the ropes. As you'd expect, there's plenty of great walks in the area — so you and your pet can enjoy some exercise and fresh mountain air.

Scenic Hotel Te Pania, Napier

Woofers are welcome at New Zealand's first full-service, dog-friendly hotel. Located right on the waterfront, it's the ideal location for a walk with yourfurry friend along Napier's famous promenade, or head to one of the region's dog-friendly parks. Dogs are allowed in one room of the hotel and bedding is provided — but make sure you book well in advance, as the room has proved to be very popular.
