My holidays: Rob Lemoto

What was your greatest holiday?
After working in Bougainville for 109 days I finally got to meet my wife and daughters on the Sunshine Coast for two weeks before returning to Bougainville for another 3 months. We had an amazing time and it certainly felt like the greatest holiday I've had so far.

And the worst?
Seoul, South Korea. Lovely people, lots of culture but a very, very busy city and I think I prefer beaches and relaxation.

If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?
Chasing my family around a pool or the beach.

If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?
Depends on the season. Winter: Queenstown, Summer: We already live in the best spot, Mt Maunganui.

How about for a dream holiday internationally?
I plan to have a summer in the Mediterranean when the kids have left home.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?
Drive the wrong way down a one-way street...thankfully no one was hurt.

What's the best travel tip you've ever been given?
Always book ahead. We've arrived at places where we were unaware of local events and as we collected our rental car we've seen others who hadn't booked ahead missing out.

What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling?
Cooked possum in Papua New Guinea. It actually tasted okay but wasn't flash to look at.

What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip?
Hand-held fans from Tonga. They're so good on the beach.

Favourite airport to land at?
Tauranga - it means I'm home.

What's the next trip you've got planned?
We've just come back from a holiday with the kids so it will take my girls a few months before they can con us into another trip, although a long weekend in Queenstown seems to be calling.
