The comedian shares her holiday memories.
What was your greatest holiday? First thing that comes to mind is a time I went to Costa Rica to visit a friend who had horses. We ran out of booze and cigarettes and I rode an old bony horse into town for replenishments. Tied it up ona wooden fence, dismounted and walked into a cantina, bought what I needed and left on the horse. Felt like Clint Eastwoodette. We went to the beach and saw alligators and surfed too, but that's what stands out.
And the worst? A winter road trip as a kid. We got lost and the car broke down by a creepy old cemetery. Got back on the road and found the house where we were staying. Ran in the door and all around the house as kids do, opened a door and saw a grizzly bear in the dark, standing about 2.5m high on its hind legs. My sister screamed and bit through her tongue. Then we realised it was taxidermied. Still ...
If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing? Some kind of thing in some kind of water. Or dancing, not in the water.
If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be? I've heard of a place called Pancake Rocks. I like both and it sounds beautiful.
How about for a dream holiday internationally? A safari of some sort. It should involve tents, treks and baby lions, leopards or gorillas.
What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling? Thought it would be easy to stay out all night in Rome, but ended up sleeping on the sidewalk with all our stuff, with my two travel companions. We thought we'd just have a big night, but everything closed and suddenly it seemed like a good idea to set up camp in a doorway. It was a very weird night.
Complete this sentence - I can't travel without ...: ... I'm a bit of a tomboy and don't have lots of things. Probably my boots would be the answer. Whatever the climate, season, terrain - I have to be wearing my boots most of the time.
What's the best travel tip you've ever been given? Bring cleaning wipes to Glastonbury. You can transfer that to any event with outdoor bathrooms.
What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling? I was working on a boat for a lesbian travel company. For a day trip we got to dive off of a boat for conch, which is a plentiful edible sea creature in The Bahamas. We brought them up from the ocean floor, and our local guide made conch ceviche while we swam. Not only was it amazing and delicious, we all got to say the word "conch" way too much. As in, "My God, this conch is huge", "I haven't had conch like this in ages!" On a lesbian boat.
Favourite airport at which to land? Anywhere on this side of the world when it's winter where I live. I love this hemisphere.
