My holiday: Rewi Spraggon

What was your greatest holiday?

Hawaiian Islands and California with my whanau.

And the worst?

Cyclone in Raiatea, 1996. There was no warning about the cyclone, it just came out of nowhere, power was out and the roads were blocked. It was constant rain and wind, so it was not what you want on a tropical island!

If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing? Eating fresh local cuisine and drinking great wine or cheap beer!

If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?

Otamure, Whananaki where I would be fishing, diving, surfing, and feasting on the freshest of kaimoana topped off with a cocktail or two.

How about for a dream holiday internationally? Cuba - white rum and cigars.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?

Losing my passport on the plane! I was leaving the plane in Singapore when I noticed I had all my documentation except my passport. I ran back on the plane to search for it. Fortunately I found it right down in the seat next to me. I was so close to getting the rubber glove!

What's the best travel tip you've ever been given? Carry your passport with you at all times.

What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling? Eating fresh salty garlic prawns in Tahiti with Mama Pauline's matai punch.

What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip? Marquesan tattoos

Favourite airport to land at? Hong Kong 15 years ago, landing between skyscrapers.

What's the next trip you've got planned? Skiing in the central North Island with the whanau.
