My Holiday: Carol Green

Carol Green is itching to visit the new Len Lye Centre in New Plymouth.

What was your greatest holiday?

Spending six weeks on an art and technology workshop in San Sebastian, Spain, it was a massive privilege.

And the worst?

Two aborted take-offs followed by a 30-hour delay on a flight to the UK wasn't too flash.

If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?

Looking up in cities is one of my favourite past-times.

If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?

New Plymouth. I'm really itching to see the new Len Lye Centre.

How about for a dream holiday internationally?

I've never been to Scandinavia - I'd love to bike around Copenhagen and absorb the ultra-cool design.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?

Walked through a dark and empty parking lot, late at night, in Buffalo, New York.

What's the best travel tip you've ever been given?

Ask for aisle seat in the middle block - you often end up with an empty seat next to you.

What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling?

Sardines freshly fished out of the sea moments earlier, salty, hot and crispy, with fresh bread, at a fishing village in Basque Spain.

What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip?

A camel pelvis bone I found in Wadi Rum, Jordan. It was old and bleached white and sculptural, like a mask from a pagan ritual.

Favourite airport to land at?

Flying over Auckland makes me realise how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place.

What's the next trip you've got planned?

Melbourne, sometime before April, to see the Ai Weiwei exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria.
