Melbourne centre upgraded

About $A1 million ($1.19 million) a week is being spent on upgrading Melbourne's Exhibition and Convention Centre, which has been named the Best Congress Centre of the Year by the Association Internationale des Palais de Congres.

New fabrics, carpets and furniture, enhanced lighting and audio visual systems are set to make the convention centre one of Melbourne's most versatile venues. The meetings, exhibition and incentives industry contributed $A112.9 million to the Victorian economy last year.
