I have been to the US almost every year since 1985 and sometimes more than once. But I've never been to Texas. Next year I have been invited to a conference in Austin and talking to anyone who's been, Austin comes highly recommended. After all, it holds the title of "live music capital of the world" with musicians everywhere from the airport terminal to cafes and grocery stores. And who doesn't love a good hoe down?
3. Macau
The last time I was in Macau I walked around the Sky Tower-inspired Macau Tower and sat dangling my legs 200m above the city. I don't think I'd do that now. But I do hope to visit again and walk through the Unesco-listed historic centre, taste some of this little Portuguese-influenced Chinese territory and have a flutter at the fancy casinos, many of which were just on the plans when I was there.
4. Budapest, Hungary
Eastern Europe has always slipped from my grasp, so I'm going to make a concerted effort to get there. I want to people-watch from a cafe and walk the Chain Bridge across the Danube. I also fancy a river cruise and can while away hours online looking at blogs and images of happy holiday makers sharing their stonking views and intricate architecture photos.
5. London, England
An oldie but a goodie and with London the hub of the Rugby World Cup, the city will be pumping around October. Here's a tip though: if I do manage to get there, I won't be flying in and out of London's over-taxed airports. I'm thinking Paris or Brussels and making my way to visit the Queen by rail.
