This weekend and next, Lake Whakamarino Lodge near Waikaremoana is offering groups of five to 10 adults a free night's accommodation if they are staying for two nights or more.
A two-hour drive from Napier or Gisborne, the lodge is guaranteed to make visitors feel they've escaped to somewhere remote, withthe last 8km of road unsealed.
The surroundings are the legendary Te Urewera National Park, and nearby is Lake Waikaremoana, famed for its trophy-sized trout.
