There are the obvious choices for visitors to Havelock, such as the iconic Mail Boat & Greenshell Mussel Cruises. But there are also some hidden, lesser-known gems to be found. The community has a thriving Havelock Community Theatre who put on at least two shows a year to sell-out audiences, incorporating local actors, artists and musicians, of whom we have plenty.
The annual Havelock Mussel & Seafood Festival is a not-to-be-missed event. Held in early March, it is the stage for the aquaculture industry to showcase what they do, alongside great seafood, local beverages and fantastic entertainment for the whole family. We are already busy planning the next festival for March 12, 2022, so save the date in your diaries.
There are several eateries and coffee shops in town. My personal favourites are Blue Kaff - a warm friendly cafe with excellent coffee - and the Slip Inn Store, which is right on the boat ramp at the marina. The Gallery Havelock on the main street is a non-profit trust that showcases Marlborough artists and is well worth a visit.
What will you find when you come to Havelock? A warm inviting, buzzing community, a not so sleepy little village on the edge of the vast Pelorus Sounds network, a place to sit and relax, tramp, fish, boat ... the list is endless.
Do yourself a favour and take some time to linger but beware as this charming town has a habit of getting under your skin and making you want to stay forever. I know this for sure.
