Guest nights decline in April

Statistics New Zealand's April accommodation survey showed a 2 per cent decline in guest nights compared with April 2000.

The fall was attributed to the timing of New Zealand public holidays, which last year produced a five-day Anzac Day-Easter break but this year split the holidays.

International visitor guest nights increased, as did the use of backpacker hostel and hotel-type accommodation.
