Sea temperatures are at their yearly high, say weather experts, so make the most of the tepid waters and head to Goat Island for some swimming and snorkelling in the idyllic spot.
The marine reserve is just over an hour's drive from Auckland off the Leigh-Pakiri Rd.
Theclear water offers underwater visibility of as much as 15m. Those wanting to explore the underwater life will find everything they need at the Seafriends Marine Conservation and Education Centre, including snorkel and diving gear.
The sheltered beach offers safe swimming for all the family, although there is slight current in the channel between the beach and the island. Parents should keep a close eye on children at all times.
The rocky foreshore will provide hours of entertainment as children look for creatures hiding in the shallow pools.
Feeding the fishes is discouraged as it can affect the ecology by attracting species that would not normally be there.
People who aren't waterbabies can explore the marine life by taking a trip in a glass-bottom boat, complete with detailed commentary.
