Rent a four-wheel-drive or initiate your own with a tour that follows the dusty dirt roads and tracks of the upper South Island, including the West Coast.
Two four-wheel-drive tour specialists have joined to take tourists and off-road enthusiasts on history-filled tours designed for families to see lakes, mountains, rivers, caves
and old coach trails once travelled by horse and wagon.
The next tour leaves on November 24 from Picton and takes in off-road areas around Murchison and Nelson and the old gold trails near Greymouth. The tour returns to Picton on November 29.
The tour costs $499 for adults, $60 for children (5-14). Under-5s travel free and those travelling can choose their accommodation, from budget to up-market. Food, vehicle-rental, accommodation and getting to Picton are not included.
