1. Naumi Auckland
Auckland's latest airport hotel comes courtesy of the Singaporean art hotel brand Naumi — but with a local twist. Featuring a motif of the tui, Naumi Hotel Auckland Airport (pictured) gives a nod to the culture, design and landscapes of Aotearoa. If you've got a bit of time to kill before your next flight, you'll be spoiled for choice: relax in the quiet gardens, have a swim in the outdoor pool, up your skills on the putting green or strike a pose on the yoga deck. Its launch last week marks a welcome boutique arrival in Auckland's generally stale hotel scene. The rooms also come equipped with unlimited free Wi-Fi, Netflix and free soft drinks and snacks in the minibar.
2. Citizen M Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
This painfully hip boutique hotel promises to help you forget you're at an airport, although its vintage aviation theme might remind you at times, with model planes and blimps hanging from the ceilings. Spend your time leafing through the hotel's collection of design books, specially curated by the renowned Amsterdam bookshop Medno, while munching on the pastries from the well-stocked kitchen. Or just chill out in your room and watch the planes take off, from the comfort of a Vitra chair.

Directly connected to Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1, the Hilton Frankfurt Airport Hotel sits above a high-speed railway station and is also flanked by two major autobahns. Designed as a horizontal skyscraper — twice as long as the Eiffel Tower is tall — this iconic hotel has 249 rooms, featuring retro 1960s carpets and stylish design furniture. Grab a bite before your flight at the hotel's RISE restaurant, where the menu revolves around the theme of bread — how German. Plus it's only minutes away from the city centre if you've got time to explore.
4. Fairmont Vancouver Airport
Get up close and personal with the world of aviation at this luxury airport hotel. If you're a true plane geek, make sure you book into a runway-view room, where they'll be taking off right outside your window. You'll find a plane-spotting guide in yourroom so you can tick off the various models as you go. And they won't keep you up all night either — the hotel is well sound-proofed, despite its close proximity to the runways. If you're feeling a bit rundown from your journey, you can also indulge in a special jetlag recovery treatment at the inhouse spa.
