Resort offers five reasons for Megan Singleton to stay a while.
1. SEE THE REAL FIJI
Driving an hour-and-a-half up the Coral Coast is an eye-opener to the Fijian way of life. You'll pass through Sigatoka, where the fresh produce market is bursting with people and colourful fruit and veges. You'll meander past villages and, if your driver is chatty, you'll learn
about Fiji rugby and local customs along the way.
2. WHAT TO DO
This huge resort has bure and hotel accommodation and a raft of activities to keep everyone entertained. Or not, if you fancy a quiet space on the lagoon of an afternoon. The sea is alluringly calm for snorkellers, paddleboarders and swimmers. There are cultural shows, a visit to the local village church on a Sunday. I took a cooking class and learned how to make delicious coconut chilli prawns.
3. ADULTS ONLY
If it's just you two or a group of friends, there are plenty of nooks and pampering places to enjoy. Vahavu is the adults-only pool with a swim-up bar and a cafe attached. Bebe spa saw me on its doorstep twice in the week I was there. Ivi is the fine dining restaurant that serves an incredible deconstructed lobster mornay and Kalokalo is the adults-only bar perched high above the resort to capture the sunset.
4. FAMILY TIME
There is also plenty for the kids, such as the beach and the pool. However it's the Kids' Club that has families jumping for joy with activities for Little Riggers (age 3-7) and Beach Riggers (8-12). You can have your own nanny (meimei) for $350 for four days. Some have even been offered permanent jobs with families. Across the road is Kula Eco Park where your kids can be park rangers and hold snakes and lizards while learning about Fiji's eco system.
