Dream job alert: Travel for free as a Discovery Channel Global Intern

If you've always dreamed of travelling the world for free, then this could be just the job opportunity for you.

The Discovery Channel is searching for its next Global Intern to follow in the footsteps of 26-year-old Aucklander Ben Mikha, who beat ten thousand entrants to take out the inaugural search earlier this year.

Spent the last few days roaming the rugged coast of Iceland and got to experience this beautiful countries many landscapes. It was crazy seeing a change in scenery every few kms, kind of reminded me of home for a bit. Now I see why so many photographers commit to traveling here each year.. So much beauty to be seen and felt 🇮🇸 #discoveryintern

The lucky winner will be someone who's adventurous, creative, loves to travel, and is armed with the skills to tell the story of a place through images, words and videos – and you can take a friend along for the ride.

The internship is a global adventure through five countries – Japan, the USA, Germany, South Africa and Croatia – with reports posted on the Discovery Channel's social platforms and blog, Heaps of Stuff.

To enter, upload a 30-60 second video to YouTube or Vimeo that shows why you should be jetting around the globe as the Discovery Intern. Along with your video, submit a photo from an adventure you've had (at home or abroad) with an accompanying caption on what made it memorable.

My favourite hike in the world.. Sometimes we all get so caught up in the destination, myself included. It's easy to be in a rush constantly trying to get somewhere, delaying our happiness in the process. "Oh when I get this, then I'll be happy". But why not choose to be happy now? I try read a book most months and a lot of the time you'll find me reading the Secret, the Power of now, the Alchemist etc. They all have a common theme: you create your own reality. You ultimately control how you see the world based on how you feel about yourself, every feeling and emotion is a direct result of a thought you created in your mind. I recently learnt about something called a negative bias, apparently our minds a wired to produce more negative thoughts than positive which shows how important it is to invest in training your mind to find the good! Any podcast I listen to usually involves some inspiring person sharing their story, part of their success is often thanks to a type of meditation that works for them. I guess what works for me is either having my camera, exploring nature or traveling. Or doing all 3. Point is, whatever works for you and makes you feel good, go do it. Take accountability for how you feel and control your thoughts, don't let them control you 🙏🏽

Entries are open until Sunday 17 December. Discovery will then choose 100 finalists who will be up for a public vote to determine who moves to the next round.
