Children under 12 will no longer be able to travel alone on British Airways, as the airline cuts costs.
The Independent reported that the airline will end its 'Unaccompanied Minor" (UM) service, in a largely unpublicised move that has angered parents.
British Airways told parents with children booked
to fly as UMs that existing tickets would be honoured, but no new bookings would be accepted.
"The airline will continue to take bookings for 12 to 18-year-olds who wish to fly independently. However, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult aged 16 or over," a statement provided to the Independent read.
A spokesperson said demand for the service had declined by two-thirds and had fallen 21 per cent in the last year.
